The Machine Spirit was a product of Verenha's fascination with the mechanical innovations of mortals in the material planes, but also the complexity of their own physical forms. It was said that any suitably advanced machine was a home for the bodiless machine spirit, which animated and drove the components of the machine. Some followers even extended this thought to include living beings as examples incredibly complex machines.

Followers of the way of the Machine Spirit were known to treat machines as if they were living beings, for they truly believed that they were alive. It was not uncommon for such believers to mark the “births” and “deaths” of machines through ritual practices.
Many who venerated the Machine Spirit may have also sought to enhance themselves with artificial components, to become more machine-like, so that the Machine Spirit might bestow upon them the great honour of occupying their bodies.
